D&D 2018: Let the spotlight shine!

SFIC’s Annual Dinner & Dance can only mean one thing – an evening of fun and games with over 400 guests and a right amount of business networking thrown into the mix.

Lights, Camera, Action!

The Nicoll ballroom at Suntec City received a group of special visitors on 2 November. Spotted among them are a Chinese Emperor in costume, a Harry Potter lookalike, a character from recent hit movie ‘’Crazy Rich Asians’’ and other guests in animal onesies.

Nope, it’s not a cosplay event or a filming session but SFIC’s 37th Anniversary (also known as the Annual Dinner & Dance).

That means an evening of fun and games with over 400 guests and a right amount of business networking thrown into the mix.

Guests were issued a lanyard with a pass that identified them as a member of one of the genres related to the theme: ‘Musical’, ‘Fantasy’, ‘Action’ or ‘Sci-fi’.

And when your guests start dressing the part, you know you are at the right party.

A ‘’veteran emcee’’ for SFIC’s D&D events for the second  time, show-host Wayne Chua is not one to disappoint. Supported by a two-piece band performance, the evening kicked off to a rambunctious start, thanks to ice breaking games from the funny man.

Despite having a last minute overseas work trip and returning only on the very evening, Senior Minister of State for Communication and Information and SFIC Patron Ms Sim Ann  made a special effort to rush down to Suntec from the airport. A touching gesture and a much appreciated strong show of support for the council!

Following tradition, newly re-elected SFIC President Mr Mark Yong took the stage for his speech and shared the council’s performance for the past year before handing over the spot to the Guest-of-Honour.

This year also marks the end of a two-year term for the current executive committee with two new faces joining the team – Ms Jamie Lim (Regional Marketing Director of Hawaii Furnishing) and Mr Kelvin Kwek (Director of Sungei Emas).

Making a grand entrance, the newly elected excos took their turn to go on stage, each donning a costume representing their assigned genre.

For the over 80 ASEAN guests in town for the 2.5 day ASEAN Youth Furniture Exchange (AYFE) programme organised by SFIC, D&D is the finale event to commemorate yet another fruitful learning trip. For the rest of the guests, it was yet another memorable industry event.
